Carter Logistics, a strategic partner of Hitachi Transport System, Ltd., is a premier logistics provider. Carter started its business in 1983 with just a couple trucks moving parts from suppliers to various automotive assembly plants. Today, Carter is well known within the automotive industry as a world-class logistics company and is setting the bar high for its competitors. Carter has also expanded into additional vertical markets, including consumer products, food, retail channels and more.
In 1998, Carter Logistics developed a business model called the Carter Shared Milkrun Network, which supports lean manufacturing practices, such as just-intime shipments. This program can offer companies lower inventories, small lot shipments, frequent deliveries, assigned window times, decreased cycle times, improved cash flow and re-capturing of floor space. Indeed, Carter Logistics is the only Milkrun operator where clients, who include many of the world’s largest manufacturing companies, are able to pool their supply base and plants together into a single logistics network and share in the total cost savings.
Carter Logistics is headquartered in Anderson, Indiana where it operates a 100 door, 100,000 sq. ft. logistics center. Carter also operates five additional crossdock facilities in Romulus, Michigan, Vandalia, Ohio, Knoxville, Tennessee, Paragould, Arkansas and Laredo, Texas. Carter opened a 140,000 sq. ft. facility in Vandalia, Ohio in 2012 and a 100,000 sq. ft. facility in Laredo, Texas in 2015. Carter picks up and delivers to suppliers and plants all across the Midwest and Southeast portions of the U.S. and handles shipments in and out of both Canada and Mexico. Carter has its own fleet of over 800 trucks and 1600 trailers as well as the ability to leverage relationships with over 120 contracted carriers.
