On November 13, 2018, the Hitachi Cable America, Indiana (HCA-IN) facility participated in the first All Girls Auto Know event at the Kentucky Science Center. This event was sponsored by the Southern Automotive Women’s Forum (SAWF). SAWF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the automotive industry. Members of SAWF serve as role models for women of all ages in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields.
The All Girls Auto Know outreach event was sponsored by SAWF for middle school girls to discuss the importance of women in the automotive industry. This event showcased career opportunities, lectures, and hands-on activities.
Ashlee Kniesly, Judi Barker, and Jennifer Williams represented HCA-IN at this event. These women explained the importance of engineering at HCA-IN and the multitudes of opportunities in the automotive field for women engineers. HCA-IN presented examples of products and career opportunities to approximately 150 middle school girls.
Each of the HCA-IN presenters explained their role in the company. It was explained that women in the workforce held various roles at HCA-IN ranging from assembly worker, engineer, design, and even the President of the company.
