Smart Grid

Hitachi and Hawaii’s smart grid projects are exploring ways to make one of the greenest places on earth even greener.

Hitachi is participating in smart grid pilot projects in various countries, including Hawaii, one of the greenest places on earth.

Maui, the remote island paradise, is a leader in using renewable energy. Hitachi is currently participating in a smart grid project whose goal is to verify the effectiveness and workability of smart grid technology so that it can be implemented on a broader scale in the future.

Hitachi EMS (Energy Management System) and DMS (Distribution Management System) are rethinking the entire power grid. Using information and control system technology, we’re addressing such issues as power voltage, surplus electricity and frequency fluctuations from renewable energy. The plan is to implement a low-carbon social infrastructure system that manages both the supply and the demand of energy.
