Hitachi Cable America Inc. Releases New 22 AWG High-Power Category 5e Cable

Manchester, New Hampshire, USA, July 25, 2017 - Hitachi Cable America Inc., (HCA), a U.S. manufacturer of copper and fiber optic communication cables, now manufactures 22 AWG 5e cables that can support up to 140 watts of power.  As a result of the explosive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), more and more devices are being networked and deriving their power directly from the network cables attached to them.  The new cable family, called Power+™, offers larger gauge copper conductors than standard Category 5e cables.  This feature permits the Power+ cables to support more power and do so to a greater distance than standard Category 5e cable.  Applications supported include Power over Ethernet (PoE) lighting, cameras, wireless access points, access control systems and more.  Power+ cables are UL verified for electrical performance to the ANSI/TIA 568-C.2 standard and can support data applications up to 1 gigabit per second (1000BASE-T). They have been tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and carry an LP rating of .7 amps/conductor (140 Watts).  The Category 5e Power+ cable is currently available with a CMP (plenum) rating and recognized in the U.S. national electrical code (NFPA-70) for use in a wide variety of building environments.  The Power+ cable is manufactured at the Hitachi facility in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA.
