HITACHI AMERICA, LTD. ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF CHIAKI FUJIWARA AS NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO

TARRYTOWN, New York, March 11, 2010 - Hitachi America, Ltd. today announced the appointment of Mr. Chiaki Fujiwara as president and CEO. Mr. Fujiwara, who currently serves as senior vice president and general manager of the Industrial Systems Division and Corporate Business Development of Hitachi America, Ltd., succeeds Kiyoshi Kinugawa, who has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer, Sales & Marketing Division, Industrial & Social Infrastructure Systems Company, Hitachi, Ltd. The appointments will be effective as of April 1, 2010.

Mr. Fujiwara joined Hitachi America, Ltd. in October, 2008. Prior to joining Hitachi America, Ltd. he held the position of Deputy General Manager, Global Business Division in the Corporate Marketing Group of Hitachi, Ltd from 2006-2008. He joined Hitachi in 1978 and has held supervisory and senior management positions during his tenure with Hitachi including positions with Hitachi China, Ltd. and Hitachi Europe, Ltd. His background includes extensive experience in several industries including Industrial Machinery Systems, Information Systems. Mr. Fujiwara holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a graduate of Keio University, located in Tokyo, Japan.

Mr. Kinugawa has served as president and CEO of Hitachi America since October 2008. Previously he was executive vice president and general manager of the Industrial Systems Division for Hitachi America, Ltd from 2006-2008 and prior to that he served as Vice President, Power and Industrial Division with Hitachi America, Ltd. Prior to joining Hitachi America, Ltd in 2005 he served as general manager, Industrial Plant Systems & Equipment Sales Division, Hitachi, Ltd. He joined Hitachi in 1975 and holds a Bachelors degree in Economics and is a graduate of Yokohama City University located in Kanagawa, Japan.
