BRISBANE, Calif. - July 13, 2006 - Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., (NYSE: HIT) today announced the formation of the Embedded Business Group, a new business unit aimed at the embedded systems market, that will be part of its Information Division headquartered in Brisbane, Calif., just south of San Francisco.

“It is exciting to take part in the formation of a new business unit targeting new markets for Hitachi In the U.S.,” said Hiroshi Nakamura, general manager of the Embedded Business Group of Hitachi America, Ltd. “Our research has shown an explosion in the sales of light-weight devices in a variety of verticals, include telecommunications, navigation, digital media, and others. Makers of these devices face challenging data management issues, and we are bringing to market a sophisticated light-weight data manager that will save development time and money, speeding products to market.”

“The creation of this new business unit is recognition of the growing sophistication of the embedded systems market,” said Toshimi Takashi, vice president and general manager of the Hitachi America Ltd., Information Division.

“The unit will initially focus on data management for lightweight devices such as smart phones, navigation systems, set top boxes and digital video recorders. The increasing scale and power of small devices is making data management middleware both possible and necessary. We expect great things of the new Embedded Business Group as it brings advanced Hitachi data management technology to the US market.”
