HITACHI, LTD. APPOINTS KIYOSHI KINUGAWA PRESIDENT OF HITACHI AMERICA, LTD.

TARRYTOWN, New York, September 2, 2008 - Hitachi, Ltd., (NYSE: HIT / TSE: 6501) today announced the appointment of Mr. Kiyoshi Kinugawa as president and CEO of its wholly owned subsidiary, Hitachi America, Ltd. Mr. Kinugawa, who currently serves as executive vice president and general manager of the Industrial Systems Division of Hitachi America, Ltd., succeeds Masahide Tanigaki, who has been appointed general manager, International Operations Division, Power Systems Group of Hitachi, Ltd. The appointments will be effective as of October 1, 2008.

Mr. Kinugawa joined Hitachi America, Ltd. in October, 2005 as vice president of the Industrial Group and Industrial Components Group in Power & Industrial Division and since February, 2006 has served in his current position. Prior to joining Hitachi America, Ltd. he held the position of general manager, Industrial Plant System & Equipment Sales Division, Hitachi, Ltd. And prior to that he served as general manager, Plant Systems Sales Division for Hitachi, Ltd. He joined Hitachi in 1975 and holds a Bachelors degree in Economics and is a graduate of Yokohama City University.

Mr. Tanigaki has served as president of Hitachi America since February 2006. Previously he was executive vice president and general manager of Power & Industrial Division for Hitachi America, Ltd. Prior to joining Hitachi America, Ltd in 2002 he served as department manager, Nuclear, Thermal Power & Gas Turbine Department No. 2, International Operations Division, Hitachi, Ltd. He holds a Bachelors degree in Economics and is a graduate of Keio University.
