EDGAR® ONLINE® AND HITACHI ANNOUNCE ALLIANCE

-- Alliance to Enable Customers to Compare U.S., Japanese companies Data in XBRL --

SOUTH NORWALK, Conn. and BRISBANE, Calif. - October 7, 2004- EDGAR® Online®, Inc. (NASDAQ: EDGR), a leading provider of value-added global business and financial information, and Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., (NYSE:HIT), a leading global electronics company, today announced an alliance through which the companies will make financial information from U.S. and Japanese public companies available to customers.

As a result of the alliance, customers of EDGAR Online will have access for the first time through EDGAR Online to Japanese company data.

Hitachi and EDGAR Online will provide fundamental company data in eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), which enables importation of fundamental data into a common platform (such as popular spreadsheet applications) for unfettered comparison and analysis of U.S. and Japanese corporation data. This combination of U.S. and Japanese data will increase the value of an add-in tool for Microsoft® Office 2003 that EDGAR Online is currently developing.

In making the announcement, Toshimi Takahashi, vice president and general manager of the Hitachi America, Ltd. Information Division, said, “We are pleased to be working with EDGAR Online to introduce this type of data service. For the first time investors and potential investors will have the capability to access and employ public financial data from both the U.S. and Japan.”
