Yosuke Nakanishi Named President of Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc.

BRISBANE, Calif., GREENVILLE, S.C. and ATLANTA, Ga.-- May 12, 2000-- Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd, (NYSE:HIT), today announced the appointment of Yosuke Nakanishi as president of Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc., a subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd., effective May 31, 2000.

Mr. Nakanishi succeeds Kenichi Fukuzawa, who has been named president of Hitachi Electronic Devices (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. Mr. Nakanishi most recently was executive vice president of Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc., a position he has held since April 1998. Previously he was general manager of electronic devices International Sales Division of Hitachi, Ltd. in Tokyo.

Mr. Nakanishi holds a BS degree in Law and has been engaged in the marketing and sales of electronic devices for more than twenty years.

Mr. Fukuzawa has been president of Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc. since June 1995. Under his leadership, the Greenville, South Carolina facility has grown from 350 to more than 1,200 employees, and the plant has been expanded by more than over 100,000 square feet.

Hitachi Electronic Devices is a major supplier of jumbo tube and takes more than 50% market share of PTV Tube market in the world. It also sells and markets Flat Panel Product in the U. S. Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc. currently manufactures 90,000 color picture tubes and 300,000 projection ray tubes per month at the Greenville facility. The picture tubes and projection ray tubes are used in a wide range of digital and analog televisions manufactured by Hitachi and other consumer electronic suppliers.
