Masakatsu Mori

Masakatsu Mori is Acting Senior Vice President and General Manager of R&D Division. He is in charge of R&D activities in America including collaborative creation of social innovation business, technology development and open innovation. In his concurrent role as General Manager, Global Center for Social Innovation, Hitachi, Ltd., he is responsible for open co-innovation worldwide, leading to the creation of novel digital solutions in various sectors, including industry, mobility, energy, IT/financial services, and smart life.

Mori joined the Systems Development Laboratory of Hitachi, Ltd. after completing his M. Eng. (Electrical Engineering) at Kyoto University in 1994. As a researcher, he worked on new services and solutions using cutting-edge digital technologies. He was also a visiting scholar at University of California, San Diego from 2003 to 2004. After leading the Planning Office at the Yokohama Research Laboratory and Production Engineering R&D, he was appointed to lead European R&D as Corporate CTO and General Manager of European R&D Centre of Hitachi Europe, Ltd. in 2018. He was appointed to his current position in April 2020.

Mori received his Ph.D. (Information Science and Technology) from Osaka University in 2015. He is a member of the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) and the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE).
