Kentucky has run world-famous horse races since 1875, and as the history of these races has grown, so too have their demands on our water infrastructure. Over 275,000 people will visit Kentucky to watch the race this weekend; from feeding the fans to feeding the horses, the festivities will consume millions of gallons of water. With only 0.01% of the Earth’s water readily potable, it is a scarce and essential natural resource. To solve this challenge, Hitachi is pioneering Social Innovations that use advanced IT and infrastructure technologies to help events like the horse races use water more efficiently.
