Hitachi Receives Energy Efficiency Award from the Alliance to Save Energy

Recognized For Its Global Role in Creating Solutions to Promote Energy Efficiency

Tarrytown, NY May 20, 2015 – Hitachi America, Ltd. today announced that it received an award from the Alliance to Save Energy at the Alliance’s EE Visionary Awards Luncheon held on May 13 in Washington, DC. Hitachi was recognized for its commitment to promoting energy efficiency as expressed in its Environmental Vision 2025 and for its leadership in developing solutions to promote energy efficiency more broadly. Erica Hauver, Senior Vice President of Energy and Smart City Solutions, accepted the award on behalf of Hitachi, Ltd.

The Alliance honored Hitachi for its dedication to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in its products ranging from batteries, to escalators, to televisions and particularly its recent commitment to increasing the efficiency of air conditioning. In 2014, Hitachi partnered with Johnson Controls to increase their efficiency in air conditioning products including VRF and inverter technologies for both the commercial and residential markets. This partnership makes Hitachi and JCI the world’s largest commercial air conditioning provider.

In accepting the award, Ms. Hauver said, “Thank you to the Alliance to Save Energy for this wonderful recognition of Hitachi’s vision and contributions toward greater energy efficiency and productivity. Hitachi is committed to using its advanced technologies to drive vast improvements in resource efficiency and transformational levels of resource productivity in energy, water, and other natural resources while also improving quality of life for the rapidly growing numbers of the world’s urban residents.”

Hitachi is developing power-generation systems that maximize the efficient use of resources while minimizing their environmental burden. The company’s new technologies increase the efficiency of both conventional power generation facilities, such as nuclear power plants, as well as renewable energy technologies, including solar power and wind power. Hitachi is also actively developing advanced control systems that support the stable supply of energy from renewable energy power systems.

Through its Social Innovation Business, Hitachi, Ltd. is addressing the significant global challenges facing society today, such as dwindling natural resources, the impact of human activity on the environment and the need to improve quality of life in congested, but rapidly growing urban areas. The company uses advanced data analytics and IT innovations to efficiently connect infrastructure systems such as energy, water and transportation to achieve more sustainable, healthier living conditions. Among global companies, Hitachi has differentiated itself from its competitors by having the long-established engineering expertise to build complex social infrastructure systems while also expanding its capabilities to develop and provide the advanced IT and Big-Data-driven solutions needed to operate and maintain them more effectively.

By deploying its Social Innovation globally, Hitachi, Ltd. is working to achieve higher levels of product and technical innovation, focused on achieving greater resource efficiency and positive social impacts, while also developing new solutions to address the most pressing global social and environmental challenges.
