HITACHI AMERICA NAMED TO SUPPLY THE STEAM AND TURBINE GENERATORS FOR THE OAK CREEK POWER PLANT EXPANSION, ELM ROAD GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 & 2

TARRYTOWN, N.Y., September 20, 2004 – Hitachi America, Ltd., Power and Industrial Division, today announced that the Bechtel Power Corporation awarded Hitachi America, Ltd., a $200 million contract to supply two 677MW supercritical boiler and steam- turbine generator units for the Oak Creek Power Plant expansion project, Elm Road Generating Station, Units 1 & 2 located in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. The plant’s two units are expected to produce commercial power in mid- 2009 and 2010. The Elm Road Generating Station is a part of We Energies Power the Future program to construct approximately 2,300 MW of new generation to meet the region’s growing electrical demand.

The work to be performed by Hitachi America encompasses the material supply of the boiler and steam-turbine generator units as well as its corresponding auxiliary equipment. Engineering work has already begun with close coordination being implemented through Bechtel Power Corporation’s Frederick, Md., office. Notice to proceed, providing full execution of the agreement, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2005.
