HITACHI POWER SYSTEMS AMERICA AWARDED A CONTRACT FOR DESIGN AND SUPPLY OF AN SCR SYSTEM FOR PSEG

-- Hitachi Environmental Technology Will Help Reduce Power Plant Emissions --

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. and JERSEY CITY, N.J., September 27, 2007 - Hitachi Power Systems America, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd., today announced that it has been awarded a contract to design and supply a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system for Hudson Generating Station - Unit 2, a part of PSEG Power’s generation fleet totaling more than 13,500 MW of electric capacity. PSEG Power is one of the nation’s largest independent power producers. The 608MW Unit located in Jersey City, New Jersey, is fueled by low sulfur coal. Installing advanced emissions controls is required due to an amended environmental agreement reached last fall with state and federal regulators. Completion of the retrofit by end of 2010 will allow long-term, continued operation of the unit. In addition to installing the Hitachi SCR for NOx reduction, the work at Hudson also includes flue-gas desulfurization (scrubber) for SO2 reduction, a bag house for particulate matter reduction, and carbon injection for mercury control. Financial terms were not disclosed.

SCR systems reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, a contributor to the formation of ozone or smog. The SCR system being furnished will utilize Hitachi’s state-of-the-art catalyst, offering high NOx removal efficiencies over wide operating load ranges and fuel types. Hitachi is working closely with Shaw Stone & Webster, the EPCM Contractor for the project.

In announcing the agreement, Henry Bartoli, CEO and president of Hitachi Power Systems America stated, “Based on the strength of Hitachi’s experience and technology, our design is the most cost effective and technically superior solution for PSEG Power’s needs.”
