Hitachi To Combine U.S.-Based Electronic Device Sales And Manufacturing Operations

Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) today announced a further development in the role of its wholly owned subsidiary, Hitachi America, Ltd., as North America regional headquarters.

In a move aimed at achieving additional streamlining of Hitachi' electronics device business in North America, the operations of the electronic devices sales and marketing divisions of Hitachi America, Ltd. will be transferred to Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi America engaged in the production of cathode-ray tube products.

The new organization, which takes effect April 1, will be known as Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA), Inc. and have its headquarters in Norcross, Georgia. The company consists of three divisions, Manufacturing, Electron Tube Sales and Flat Panel Display Sales. Kenichi Fukuzawa, most recently president of Hitachi Electronic Devices, will head the new organization as president.

Commenting on the announcement, Kenichi Fukuzawa, president of the new company, said, "Hitachi is the leading electronic devices manufacture in the world. With a unified North America organization, integrated from manufacturing through sales and support, Hitachi can better serve our customers more speedily and flexibly."

The consolidation of electronic device sales and marketing, and manufacturing operations into a single entity that integrates everything from administration through to production, marketing and sales, will provide a more flexible, customer-oriented organization. At the same time, by speeding up the decision-making process it will further strengthen the business foundation of electronic device operations in North America.

Looking to the future, the regional headquarters functions of Hitachi America will be emphasized by supporting operations and consolidating management of corporate entities in North America in which Hitachi has an equity interest.
