Hitachi America Appoints Gerard F. Corbett General Manager, Corporate Communications Group

BRISBANE, Calif., June 6, 2000 – Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) today announced that it has appointed Gerard F. Corbett general manager of its Corporate Communications Group based at its North America Headquarters in Brisbane, Calif., near San Francisco.

Mr. Corbett, 50, has responsibility for branding in North America encompassing public relations, advertising, marketing communications, internet and online communications, employee communications and coordination with Hitachi, Ltd. in Japan and with the approximate 70 Hitachi America and Hitachi, Ltd. group companies in North America. He joined Hitachi America in 1995 as head of the Corporate Communications Group and was named senior director of the unit in 1999. Mr. Corbett has more than 25 years experience in the corporate communications and investor relations fields and has served in senior positions with Loral Corporation, ASARCO Incorporated, Gould Inc. and International Harvester. Previously, he served in account management and editorial services with PR firm, Creamer Dickson Basford; as a senior technical writer with National Semiconductor and Four Phase Systems; and as a scientific programmer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Mountain View, California.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., he holds a B.A. degree in PR from San Jose State University (SJSU) and is chairman of the Corporate Advisory Panel of SJSU’s public relations degree program. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and was inducted into PRSA’s College of Fellows in 1998. He also is a member of the PRSA National Honors and Awards Committee, a senior member of the American Institute and Aeronautics and Astronautics and a member of the National Investor Relations Institute, National Association of Science Writers and New York PR Society. He also is past recipient of insidePR’s PR All Star Awards.
