-- Competitively Priced 42-Inch Plasma Display Advances Flexible Presentation Solution with Enhanced Color Capabilities and Updated Chassis Design --

LAS VEGAS, http://www.hitachi.us/, November 12, 2001 - Inspiring the next generation of presentation solutions, Hitachi America, Ltd. a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), Tokyo, today announced the CMP4121HDU, the latest in its family of plasma displays. The new 42-inch plasma display will bring its customers a powerful solution for natural, lifelike color, featuring black framing for deeper blacks and a Dynamic Color Balance (DCB) circuit that will enhance color balance at all brightness levels. The new model also features a thinner bezel and tinted faceplate for a sophisticated look and sleek styling, as well as color temperature adjustment capability, which will enable users to customize the image for optimum output.

The CMP4121HDU is priced at $7,995 and is now available through Hitachi's network of authorized resellers.

"Hitachi is committed to continual updates of its product lines, in functionality, technology and design," said Pete Denes, director of sales for Hitachi America, Ltd., Computer Division, Multimedia Presentation Products. "The CMP4121HDU is a testament to this commitment, and we are proud to add this sleek, vibrant display to our presentation product offering."

Like its predecessor, the CMP4121HDU features an impressive resolution of up to 1,024 x 1,024 and incorporates the ALIS system - a technology that alternately lights even and odd lines on the display, in turn providing increased display quality, higher vertical definition and a longer life of the unit. With digitally enhanced black levels, the CMP4121HDU provides vibrant images for tremendous visual impact.

The CMP4121HDU features Hitachi's Motion Adaptive Progressive Scan technology, providing exceptional video quality. In addition to enabling smoother, more detailed moving images, this technology includes a noise reduction filter and a digital black enhancement capability that leads to richer blacks and higher contrast. The new plasma display features a 160 degree viewing angle and native 16:9 aspect ratio for the final technical touches to this powerful presentation solution.

In order to provide a flexible solution for its varied customer base, the CMP4121HDU utilizes multi-scan technology, automatically adjusting to VGA, S-VGA, XGA, S-XGA or UXGA resolution for enhanced brightness and contrast. The display also accepts a wide range of video signal formats and can be connected to other home electronics devices as well as professional video cameras, digital broadcasting adapters and PCs.

Competitively priced at $7,995, the CMP4121HDU is ideal for a variety of business uses, including conference and board rooms, showrooms and fitness centers - anywhere that a sleek, sophisticated display is desired. Weighing only 68 pounds, and mountable both horizontally and vertically, the CMP4121HDU is a flexible solution that meets the needs of today's discerning consumer.
