Hitachi America and Tavistock Development Company Partner to Spearhead Movement Analytics and Drone Integration in Lake Nona Community

SANTA CLARA, Calif., and ORLANDO, Fla., May 26, 2021 – Hitachi America, Ltd. (“Hitachi America”) and Tavistock Development Company, announced today that they have signed an agreement to provide Movement Analytics and Drone Integration strategy to better understand, improve and optimize movement within Lake Nona, a 17-square-mile, master-planned community in Orlando, Fla. Named the “Future of Cities” by Fortune Magazine, Lake Nona is a super-connected smart city designed to accelerate innovation and well-being.

Tavistock specializes in the planning, design, finance, construction and development of groundbreaking projects that look to the future of design, technology and human experience. Tavistock’s flagship project, Lake Nona, has been in development for 25 years. Continually ranked among the fastest-growing communities in the country, Lake Nona’s rapid growth has born the need to better understand the movement patterns throughout the community. To best address the issue, Hitachi will leverage Tavistock’s commitment to collaboration, innovation and experience that anchors Lake Nona’s “living lab” environment. Home to the country’s largest and longest-running, single-site autonomous vehicle fleet, a growing 5G network, multiple Fortune 500 businesses, and trailblazing entrepreneurs, there are countless new ideas taking shape in Lake Nona. Hitachi will provide digital analytics to analyze movement patterns within the community to formulate solutions on how to address and mitigate real-life traffic bottlenecks and mobility flow challenges.

“With the expected and constant growth, along with the technological advances Tavistock is planning for Lake Nona, it’s uplifting that they are placing a great importance on frictionless movement of people and traffic within the community,” said Hicham Abdessamad, Chairman & CEO, Hitachi America, Ltd. “Hitachi America, Ltd., is able to capitalize on Lake Nona’s ‘living lab’ environment and marry that with digital solutions and data-driven technologies to provide the needed movement analytics that address real-life people and traffic flows. Moving forward, Hitachi and Tavistock are also working with ecosystem partners to balance distributed community grid loads, which would include renewables and EV future demands.”

“Lake Nona is a place where we’re not just imagining the future, we’re living in it,” said Juan Santos, Senior Vice President of Innovation and Brand Experience Tavistock Development Company. “By partnering with Hitachi and leveraging their multi-modal expertise, we can better understand the dynamic range of movement in Lake Nona, like our autonomous shuttle network and commuter traffic, to help create more efficiencies and enhance user experiences.”
