Hitachi Power Tools Launches High-Tech AC Brushless Hammer Line Designed for Durability & Comfort

BRASELTON, GA. (May 19, 2016) – Hitachi Power Tools (Hitachi Koki USA, Ltd.) today unveiled a new line of AC Brushless SDS Max Rotary Hammers featuring Hitachi’s Aluminum Housing Body (AHB) construction that delivers impressive internal and external durability, and select hammers in the line also incorporating User Vibration Protection (UVP) technology to minimize vibration transfer to the user. This new line from Hitachi will lead the commercial industry in North America by delivering products that not only last longer due to reformative construction of the tool body and motor, but also can reduce the risk of developing a vibration-related injury due to prolonged exposure.

Hitachi is first to market in North America for AC Brushless motor technology with this new Rotary Hammer line. An AC Brushless motor is more efficient, leading to longer run time, increased power and extended durability with essentially no maintenance. Eliminating the need for carbon brushes means freedom from issues with the motor armature burning out, experiencing layer shorts or commutator wear in severe environments. Also, brush wear and resulting armature damage from lack of maintenance is the most common service issue. This is completely eliminated by the Brushless motor resulting in more uninterrupted run times.

Conventional commutator motor

Additionally Brushless motors regulate the power supply for stability in performance even if the voltage drops. The Brushless motor continually monitors the electrical flow and load conditions so the tool can operate with a longer extension cord without loss of performance.

This new line of AC Brushless hammers is also designed for compatibility with a generator thanks to Hitachi’s compact and highly efficient inverter circuit. This circuit cleans up and modulates the electricity before it is used in the motor providing steady, stable operation and greatly reduces the risk of damaging the internal circuits. This is unique to Hitachi Brushless Hammers and is ideal for mobile contractors without a permanent power source on the jobsite

All Hitachi Hammers in this Brushless line incorporate Hitachi’s Aluminum Housing Body (AHB) construction, which increases durability. This is achieved by combining a strong aluminum outer housing with an internal plastic stator holder that surrounds and protects the motor. This construction is designed so that the motor bearings are still seated in metal resulting in reduced vibration and stress, while providing the internal double insulation benefits; like protecting the user from electric shock. Hammers with aluminum bodies are more resistance to job site impacts that often occur when working with hard concrete and brick surfaces than their plastic counterparts.

Select models in this line also feature Hitachi’s patented User Vibration Protection (UVP) technology which is one of the most advanced vibration protection systems on the market. Hitachi’s technology implements an internal counterbalance mechanism via a weight and two springs that move in the opposite direction of the main body. This, in addition to a shock absorbing handle, results in significantly reduced full-load tri-axial vibration transfer to the user and can reduce the risk of developing a vibration-related injury due to prolonged exposure. All hammers in this line are designed for two modes of operation: hammer drilling and hammer only with a neutral position to assist in a range of applications and transitions. In neutral position, a variable lock mechanism allows for 12-angle positions for an optimal working angle and a quick release system allows for simple bit changes. A push button rotation speed selector switch adjusts the impact rate according to the application, and can be maintained regardless of load, improving drilling efficiency. To prevent additional wear on the tool, an idle strike restrictor prevents no-load activation. Needle-pin slip clutch protects the tool gears and the user by shutting down the rotation in the event of a bound bit.

The dust-resistant structure guards internal components from harmful debris, while sealed lubrication prevent grease leakage and lends to the tools maintenance free operation. A power indicator lamp lights up on the tools when power is supplied, for convenience.   All Brushless hammer handles are covered in Hitachi’s soft, non-slip elastomer grip for improved comfort and control. All hammers come complete with a depth stopper rod for drilling accuracy, a 360° adjustable side-handle for better control of the tool and can be removed when working in tight spaces, grease and a durable case for easy transport and storage.

Covered by Hitachi’s 1-Year Warranty, these AC Brushless SDS Max Hammers are designed to last while hammering or hammer/drilling holes in concrete for anchors or rebar, demolishing and chiseling concrete, cutting, digging, tamping or driving ground rods with ease.
