Hitachi to Participate in DistribuTECH 2017, One of the Largest Energy-Related Events in North America

Tarrytown, NY, January 10, 2017 – Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501), today announced that it will participate in DistribuTECH 2017 (Booth No. 1841), one of the largest energy-related events in North America. DistribuTECH 2017 will be held in San Diego, California, United States, starting from Tuesday, January 31, 2017 to Thursday, February 2, 2017.

DistribuTECH is a major energy event exhibiting technologies and products that reflect the latest trends in the global electricity and energy markets, while also offering a variety of discussions and presentations on the most important issues facing the electricity industry in the future. This year’s event will be the 27th annual exhibition, with expected participation from over 500 companies engaged in energy infrastructure worldwide.

In recent years, DistribuTECH’s exhibitions have focused primarily on digital solutions that address a range of energy issues and create new value, in addition to the latest technologies in the energy power sector, such as smart grids and distributed power generation. Hitachi has participated in the exhibition every year since 2010 with the aim of introducing its latest products and solutions, which feature both sophisticated technologies and strong reliability, to global electricity and energy operators.

Under the theme “Advancing Digital Energy Solutions”, Hitachi will demonstrate the future potential and benefits that IoT-connected energy solutions will bring about through the use of Lumada, Hitachi’s IoT core platform that achieves significant collaborative creation between the company and energy providers. Hitachi will also introduce other innovations, such as the company’s microgrid solutions, T&D*1 solutions, asset management services for distributors, improvements in preventive maintenance operations and other energy-related displays – all to be presented through videos and panel exhibitions. In terms of microgrid solutions in particular, Hitachi will show its progress in expanding distributed power generation as a result of the wider use of renewable energy, a trend Hitachi is taking advantage of to expand its microgrid business through the combination of power generation, power storage and power controlling. Hitachi’s exhibition will also include a demonstration focusing on energy control systems as well as other advanced products that support energy solutions.

Hitachi provides a variety of stakeholders with energy solutions through the fusion of highly reliable OT*2 and IT*3, which has gained acceptance in a wide range of business areas. The company sees North America in particular as an important market for its future energy business expansion. Accordingly, Hitachi has taken specific, North America-based measures to achieve optimal energy management, including conducting microgrid-related feasibility studies in New York State and launching a large-scale smart grid project, enabled by Hitachi technologies, which seeks to integrate high levels of photovoltaics (PV), wind energy, and electric vehicles into an island-based smart grid environment on the island of Maui. The Maui project also includes a trial implementation of an energy storage system intended to help maintain grid stability for the island. Through Hitachi’s expanded exhibition this year, Hitachi will seek to emphasize its significant presence in today’s global energy solutions market.
